” When Skeptics Ask” is the title of a book written by Dr. Norman Geisler to help Christians answer questions commonly asked by non-Christian skeptics. Dr. Geisler was considered one of the worlds leading apologists– a defender of the historic Christian faith as it is laid out in the Holy Scripture. An apologist is a person who studies the subject of Apologetics. Apologetics comes from the Greek word “apologia.” It means to speak to, or to make a defense. It is the same word that is translated “defense” in 1 Peter 3:15 …But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
Dr. Geisler had a strong connection to Calvary Chapel, and with its founder, Chuck Smith. He co-founded Southern Evangelical Seminary with former Calvary pastor Ross Rhoads, and his death in 2019 is recognized on the Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa website (https://calvarychapel.com/posts/norman-leo-geisler-july-21-1932-july-1-2019/). Chapel Costa Mesa provided campus space for Veritas International University, where Geisler was co-founder and served as the Norman L. Geisler Chair of Christian Apologetics.
